Face masks are one of my favorite ways to treat my skin to some goodness. They always leave my skin feeling fresh, smooth, and most importantly clean! I can't always spend those few extra dollars on face masks when I'm in the store, so here is a recipe for one you can make at home! All of these ingredients are inexpensive and can be found at your local grocery store or you may already have the ingredients floating around your kitchen cabinets like I do. Here is the recipe:
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1 teaspoon Tumeric
1 teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar
2 tablespoons water
Juice of half a lemon
Apply with your fingers or a brush and leave on for about 15-20 minutes
This is the ratio of ingredients I like to use, I enjoy honey + lemon the most and a little bit of everything else! Feel free to modify it to your liking and your skin's needs.
*If you have light colored nail polish on, apply mask with a brush. Tumeric will tint your nail polish an orange hue*
And here is a little background about why the ingredients are good for your skin! Baking soda serves as an exfoliant for the skin and it balances the pH which is an important factor in maintaining a clear, even skintone. Apple cider vinegar contains acid that is naturally antibacterial, it helps remove dead skin cells, and helps remove toxins. It's also amazing for your health (bonus)! My mom's signature drink is hot water with a shot of apple cider vinegar and lemon. Again, it fights off bacteria but also improves heart health, digestion, and contains tons of vitamins and minerals. Tumeric is a natural anti-inflammatory which helps decrease acne scars and redness. It also contains antioxidants which your skin loves. Honey is antibacterial like the apple cider vinegar, so it helps prevent future breakouts and calm the ones you may currently have. It's full of antioxidants as well and moisturizes your skin, you can't go wrong adding honey to any face mask recipe! Lemons are rich in Vitamin C and citric acid, so it helps brighten your skin and any dark marks. It also removes excess oil on your skin.
I hope you guys like this recipe and give it a try!
